Hello there, I m Pasindu from psdsquare. This is my first photoshop tutorial post. In this tutorial, you can learn great features in photoshop CS5, CS6, CC, CC2017. The refine edge feature and the quick tool.
The quick selection tool allows you to draw selections around an image very quickly while the refine edge featured as a fantastic job creating detailed masks for feathery areas like hair. In many ways, the refine edge tool replaces the extract tool plug-in filter in earlier versions of photoshop. That you have to download from the adobe site.
Select the Image Using Quick Selection Tool
Here's a picture of a girl wispy hair. You can see how difficult if not impossible it would be to paint in a good mask of the hair. The refine edge feature takes care of the problem quickly and painlessly.
Ultimately cut out the girl and place her on this background.
It's always a good idea to make a copy of the image you're working on. So we'll press "ctrl + J" or "command + J" on mac to make a copy of the layer.
We're going to roughly define the areas of the image. Click the Quick Selection tool and click and drag. Doing so will create a selection of the image Like this.
You can subtract areas of the selection by clicking "alt" or "option" on a mac. Go to the top and click on refine edge. This will open up the dialogue box. If you click on view mode you'll be able to see your image and its selection on various backgrounds. Depending on the on image you'll be able to choose among various few modes that best shows your mask. You can choose overlay, black, white, black & white, on layers or on the background. Click on black for this particular image and then go into edge detection and click on a smart radius. Increase the radius to about 8 pixels. Click on the refine radius tool. Then Go to the upper left of the screen and adjust the size of the tool. Take the refine radius brush tool and paint in the areas around the wispy hair.
After this step, it basically defines the area of transition you can still see some of the backgrounds in her hair. Increase the amount of bit and notice the subtle difference. Now set the output to new layer with layer mask and click ok. This is how a girl looks on the background now.
See how the wispy hair is all picked up the fine detail it would take forever to try to paint that in. You can make the hair pop a little more to duplicate the layer. This step you can get even more detail. The refine edge tool that's a great job in doing this.
